Early voting

Early voting for the midterm elections will began on October 24 at the First Baptist Church in Pocahontas and will continue through November 7. Hours of early voting are Monday through Friday 8 a.m.

A peek inside “The Mousetrap”

The 2nd Act Productions performers are back on the Downtown Playhouse stage for Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap,” the third and final play of the 2022 season. After the successes of “Our Town” in the spring and “The Odd Couple” (female version) in the summer, the entertainment continues this fall as audiences will be intrigued and captivated by the events in “The Mousetrap.” The play is about a mysterious assemblage of people who are snowbound together at a guest house located in a former manor.

Krissy Massey challenges Incumbent Stacy Ingram

Randolph County voters will go to the polls on November 8 to choose between incumbent Randolph County Assessor Stacy Ingram and challenger Krissy Massey to serve as Randolph County Assessor beginning in 2023. Pocahontas resident and current Randolph County Assessor Stacy Ingram, 47, originally from Maynard, graduated from Maynard High school in 1993. She has been married to her husband, Trent, for 27 years and has two sons, Logan and Clayton, and a granddaughter named Graylynn. She has served as Randolph County Assessor for 10

I’m a survivor… Carson Hausman

Pocahontas resident Carson Hausman was just 29 years old and two weeks from getting married, when she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Being under the age of doctor suggested regular mammograms, Hausman said she always performed self-exams on herself, as it is common practice among gynecologists to tell their patients to do so and be vigilant.

Imboden News

During my lifetime the only institutions that are still in Imboden from 1945 today are the four churches and Sloan-Hendrix School. The churches are Imboden First Baptist Church, Imboden Church of Christ, Imboden Assembly of God, Church, and Imboden United Methodist Church. First Baptist Church has added on, and Assembly of God Church has moved to west end of town on Highway 63. These four churches are very active in fulfilling the religious needs of Imboden and surrounding residents. Sloan-Hendrix is still offering a quality education with new buildings and record enrollment this year-739 (later article on Sloan Hendrix School). Since Bill McCurley Gymnasium was opened in 2004, Sloan Hendrix has hosted a State and Regional Basketball Tournament. Current professional basketball starts Malik Monk (EPC) and Austin Reeves (Cedar Ridge) starred in the Regional Tournament. Imboden Area Charter School, an open-enrollment school for kindergarten through eighth grade opened in 2002. The last school year had 61 students enrolled.
