The Pocahontas Redskins travel to Poinsett County this week, taking on the Harrisburg Hornets in the second contest of their mid-season, three-game road swing. After a dominating 35-8 win last week over Gosnell, the Redskins are currently tied with Blytheville and Trumann for first place atop the 3-4A conference.

PJHS Redskins fall to Gosnell

The Pocahontas Junior Redskins lost to conference rival Gosnell Pirates 14-0 on September 29 at Schoonover Field. The Pirates jumped out to 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Even though the Redskins had several chances to score, they could not overcome the Gosnell lead and lost 140.

Bethany Church Homecoming

Bethany Church of Christ congregation began worshipping our Lord at Bethany in 1872 or 150 years ago. Bethany was first a brush arbor, which is described as a temporary shelter consisting of a roof construction out of branches and brush that were held up by poles.

Simonton benefit November 5

There will be a BBQ Dinner served on November 5, 2022, at the American Legion in Pocahontas, starting at 6:00 PM to benefit the Simonton family. A live auction and bake sale will follow the BBQ dinner. There will also be a gun raffle. Tickets are on sale for a chance to win a Winchester 12-gauge SXP, which was sponsored by M&M Farm and Home. Ticket price is $1 a piece or $6 for 5. (Do not have to be present to win).

Population bottomed out in 1960 at 400, but Imboden was going to see steady growth in the 1960s with population increasing to 496 In 1970. Vietnam War like Korean War had little impact on the town except for more young men being drafted to join in the conflict.

Around the Kitchen Table with Nanny

I had a wonderful time at a family reunion. It was my dad’s side of the family. I got to meet some of the younger generation members. It was fun to reminisce with older cousins. Reconnecting with family members I had not seen for a long time was lovely. And, of course, we had a table laden with all kind of delicous foods and snacks. Believe me, no one left there hungry.

Ford – Dean Family Reunion

The annual Ford-Dean family reunion will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Pocahontas Community Center. The address is 300 Geneva Drive in Pocahontas. This location has more parking space and easier access into the building. We have missed the last 2 years due to the covid epidemic. We hope to have a good turnout this year.

PHS Class of 1966 Reunion Oct 15

The Pocahontas High School Class of 1966 is planning a reunion for Saturday, October 15, 2022. Classmates are encouraged to meet at the high school for a group photo in front of the old rock building at 4:30 p.m. Couples photos will also be taken. A Meet ‘n’ Greet and buffet dinner will follow at the Rolling Hills Country Club. Cost is $30/person.
