The Good Stuff

The Pocahontas Redskins kept their unbeaten conference record alive last week, cruising to a 49-21 win over the Harrisburg Hornets. Grandfather and granddaughter share the stage together

Eli Murray has been acting on the Imperial stage for quite some time now, but in all the shows he’s performed in, this one is his favorite. “Countdown at the Fied Piper Saloon -or- The Legend of Johnny Rash” is a hilarious melodrama, the audiences’ cheers and boos and gets into the show, especially when Eli plays the town drunk (he’s never drank a drop in his life) named Lucky. So why is this show so special to him? Simply put, he and granddaughter Olivia Murray share the stage, and the laughs, for the first time ever.

Kathy Rash

When Pocahontas resident Kathy Rash received the fated cancer diagnosis call Aug. 4, 2012, all she thought was that she was going to pass away in the same manner her parents had. The call confirmed her worst fear: that the two lumps she had found herself two months earlier were confirmed breast cancer by a mammogram and biopsy.

WHAT DOES A CITY CLERK DO?

The City Clerk’s office is responsible for adherence to many guidelines, rules, codes, and laws set forth by our city, County, and the state. The Clerk’s office also tracks certifications in ethics training for elected officials, financial and campaign disclosures, as well as recording minutes for council meetings, and overseeing the financial activities of the city. So I ask myself, why do I want to become the City Clerk? I want to see the City of Pocahontas grow. I want to work alongside the city council and our mayor to aid in strengthening our infrastructure by improving our water, waste, and sewer systems, as well as expanding and improving our parks and recreation programs. As a certified grant writer and city official I can, at no additional cost, aid in the acquisition of state and federal grants to achieve these important goals. As the Clerk I can ensure that this grant money is focused solely on projects within the City of Pocahontas. I would like to implement new technology and software into the City Clerk’s office to allow the citizens a more transparent view of public information via an online portal. In the utilization of this technology the citizens of Pocahontas would be able to purchase permits and business licenses and pay for them online, saving valuable time. I have been an employee of the City of Pocahontas for the last 8 years. During this time I have worked alongside the City Clerk, Mayor’s office, City Council, and the parks and recreation board. I am very teamwork oriented and have developed many valuable professional relationships with each of these departments. In my time with the city, I have learned bylaws and codes necessary to effectively perform the duties of Pocahontas City Clerk. I want to be the connecting link that brings our citizens and government together. My name is Sarah Dunlap. I am dedicated, honest, trustworthy, approachable, and experienced in county and city government operations. I promise that I will show up fo
