There will be a BBQ Dinner served on November 5, 2022, at the American Legion in Pocahontas, starting at 6:00 PM to benefit the Simonton family. A live auction and bake sale will follow the BBQ dinner. There will also be a gun raffle. Tickets are on sale for a chance to win a Winchester 12-gauge SXP, which was sponsored by M&M Farm and Home. Ticket price is $1 a piece or $6 for 5. (Do not have to be present to win).

The Randolph County Right to Life will sponsor the Annual Life Chain, Sunday Oct. 2, 2-3PM at Black River Overlook Park. This is a peaceful, prayerful public witness of pro-life Americans standing in honor of the millions of unborn lives lost to abortion, praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. Bring your whole family. Signs will be available. Please come and stand in solidarity with thousands of pro-life individuals throughout the USA and Canada. In honor of Global Day of Student Prayer on Wednesday, September 28, students will be having a “See You At The Pole” gathering and prayer starting at 7 AM. See You At The Pole began with a small group of students in Texas in 1990 and continues to inspire students to get together to pray for their friends, family, school, community, and the world!
On Friday, September 16, 2022, the Pocahontas City Council held a Special City Council Meeting, which was called because several issues came up following the previous meeting, according to Mayor Keith Sutton. Council members present were Wayne Broadway, Nathan Camp, Keith Futrell, Rob Olvey and Kerri King, along with City Attorney Joe Grider, and Ben Pond arriving later.
World War II had an impact on Imboden as it did the rest of the United States. Population had dropped from 630 in 1920 to 564 in 1930 to 525 in 1940. Imboden was still dependent on the railroad for source of shipping, mail and transportation. There were a few cars but not every family had one, but as I noted last week, roads were not paved. Travel was limited to absolutely necessary trips out of town.


Randolph County’s Kiwanis club members held a Rubber Duck Race Fundraiser at Overlook Park on Saturday, September 9. Joie Saienni won the grand prize of $300.00.
