NOTICE FOR AMENDMENTS REFERRED TO THE PEOPLE BY THE ARKANSAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY Issue No. 1 NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC

Pursuant to Article 19, Section 22, of the Arkansas Constitution, the 93rd General Assembly refers the following constitutional amendment to a vote of the people on November 8, 2022, and will appear on the ballot as Issue No. 1. Each elector upon voting his/her ballot shall vote for or against this amendment. Underlined language would be added to the present Constitution. Stricken language would be deleted from the present Constitution. This amendment was proposed in the Regular 2021 Session by Senator B. Davis and filed as SJR 10.

2022 Redskin Football

Are you ready for some football? The Senior and Junior Football Redskins begin the 2022 season on August 18 at home with the Junior Redskins hosting the Valley View Blazers and the Senior Redskins playing August 19 at Valley View. The two games against the Blazers will be scrimmagegames.Head Football Coach, Charles Baty, in his ninth year at Pocahontas, has a 64-29 record with the Redskins and three conference championships, three conference runner ups and eight consecutive appearances in the playoffs.

Summer Photo Contest Winner

Pocahontas resident, Mistina Hibbard, captured the photo of a seagull and bald eagle while vacationing in Freeport, Maine. Mistina said the bald eagle had found a mussel and was trying to eat it, but the seagull wasn’t too happy aboutit. She said the seagull kept flying overhead while screaming at the bald eagle. Mistina’s phot won Best of Show in the Star Herald’s Summer Scrapbook Photo Contest. Category winners are showcased on page 12.

As we approach the “dog days” of summer, remember that pet care never takes a vacation. Pets should always have fresh water, regardless of the season of the year. To maintain optimum health, vaccinations should be kept up to date. Rabies vaccinations are required by law – after the first year – every three years in the State of Arkansas. This is for the owner’s protection as well as the pet’s. Remember that dogs’ paws can burn on hot asphalt – if it’s too hot for your own bare feet, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws too. Long walks are not recommended.
