Farmer’s Market update

It’s hot! The Randolph County Farmers Marker will be taking a break for the next few weeks for our growers to work on succession plantings after these heat waves and dry spells. Heat and drought got your onions small? One of our favorite things to do with small onions is to roast them.

From the Humane Society…

Over the years, cats have had a way of “miraculously” appearing at my house. I would have to think about it, but just off the top of my head, I can think of a minimum of 8 or 10 which have appeared at my house since I have lived at this address. Another one appeared over July 4th weekend. This time, it was a kitten estimated to be 10 weeks old. He/she (not sure which it is yet) was scared half to death at first. You would be too, if someone took you from your first home and re-deposited you in a strange, new place! It took about four days, but the kitten is finally warming up to me. I think it’s good canned cat food that won it over.

Did you know?

This row of cedars, in the Catholic cemetery, shades the graves of 19 Benedictine Olivetan Sisters. Ages of these nuns range from 18 to 54, and burial dates are from 1890 to 1924 which was probably about the time the “mother house” was moved to Jonesboro.

Pacific Islander Festival July 23

On Saturday, July 23, from 11 am to dark, there will be a festival surrounding various aspects and traditions of Pacific Islander culture. The festival will be held on the square, and will feature various events and activities to participate in, and free authentic Pacific Islander food and refreshments will be provided.
