The Randolph County Heritage Museum will kick off the 2022 Summer Lecture Series on June 6 with a lecture by Rex Nelson, the Senior Editor at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Nelson is a native of Arkadelphia. He is a longtime sportscaster who has been inducted into the Arkansas Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame. Nelson is also a political pundit and journalist who served as the communications director for former Governor Mike Huckabee. He also served as the Arkansas Independent Colleges and Universities Association president. In 2005 President George W. Bush appointed him to the Delta Regional Authority. Today, he is best known for his column in the Democrat-Gazette. In addition, Nelson is a sought-after public speaker. Museum director Rodney Harris said, “We are lucky to have Rex come to Pocahontas.”

This was a beautiful weekend for enjoying outdoors, sunny but not too hot. A perfect Memorial weekend, to remember our fallen heroes.
I was getting ready to do my weekly column and thinking about tomorrow and the Memorial Holiday. Remembering the true meaning of the day. My mind takes me back to how many young men from Randolph County and all over our country who fought and died for the freedom we have today.
