Buddy Poppy Drive slated for May 28

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4556 will be conducting a Buddy Poppy drive on Saturday, 28 May from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. VFW is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to veterans and their families. Our mission statement is “NO ONE DOES MORE FOR VETERANS” and we take that statement seriously.

What’s Cooking by Valerie Paterson

A mostly pleasant sunny weekend and a little cooler thank goodness. More of my beautiful flowers are appearing. There is a beautiful columbine with deep purple flowers climbing a trellis and lavender filling the air with perfume. I was so thrilled to find my family’s favorite red fruit at the local WalMart, except of course it isn’t a fruit.

Around the Kitchen Table with Nanny

Another week of Spring has gone, getting closer to HOT Weather, some days I look forward to and others I sure enjoy the pleasant weather we have been having. Time to start planning my very small herb garden. I like growing and cooking with herbs. Time to get out in the sun and enjoy nature. Thinking of “make ahead” light meals for the hot day’s we have ahead of us.

Susie Eddington

Susie Eddington, 82, of Corning, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at home. Mrs. Eddington was born on April 28, 1940 in Success, AR. She had worked as secretary for Biggers Reyno School District and at Farmers and Merchant Bank in Reyno. She was an Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, canning, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She had served as a Sunday School teacher at Reyno First Baptist Church where she was a member.

Jeffrey Allen Watson

Jeffrey Allen Watson, 39, of Pocahontas, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, May 10th, 2022. Jeffrey was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Charles and Sharon Medley Watson on September 20th, 1982. Jeffrey is preceded in death by his father, Charles Watson; grandfathers, Luther Medley, and Doyle Watson; and his grandmother, Reba Crofford. Jeffrey is survived by his mother, Sharon Medley Watson; wife, Libby Watson; two sons, Ethan Frankenberger (McKenzie Smith) and Andrew Dunnivant both of Pocahontas; daughter, Bailey Frankenberger (Scoob Higginbotham) of Pocahontas; mother-in-law, Bonita and Don Busch of Mammoth Springs; father-in-law, Clyde and Jeannie Hutson Jr. of Springfield, Missouri; sister-in-law, Marcia Kerley; brother-in-law, Tony Kerley; grandmother, Bonnie Medley; brother, Charles Watson Ruff; a special little girl, Brynlee (BB) Higginbotham; and his furbaby, Roxy. All services will be held in the chapel of Hope Gardens Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14th, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Jeffrey’s funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 15th, 2022, at 2:30 p.m., Nathan Kirkley will be officiating, and a procession will follow immediately after to New Hope Cemetery. Honored to carry Jeffrey to his earthly resting place are Mark Johnson, Raymond Renfro, Tony Kerley, Shawn Ashcraft, Joseph Jansen, and Eric French. Honorary pallbearers are Ethan Frankenberger, Andrew Dunnivant, David Medley, Scoob Higginbotham, and Greg Chesser. Jeff will be forever remembered by many things. Things that aren’t found in many people, but these are the things that Jeff was loved the most for. He had a wonderful and contagious smile that would spread to everyone’s faces. Jeff was full of life and cared about others deeply. He was passionate about the things he enjoyed, such as sports and cars, and last, but most certainly not least, Jeff was a hard worker who did everything he could to take care of his family that he loved so much.

Randolph County JPs Have May Meeting You’re off to great places! Old Courthouse Today discussion your day! tabled again

Members of the Randolph County Quorum Court met on Thursday night, May 12 for their regularly scheduled meeting held inside the court room of the New Randolph County Courthouse. With tension in the air, Judge Ronald Barnett tabled the discussion of the use of the Old Randolph County Courthouse for the second time, which was met with gasps from the members of the community present.
