Sometimes it’s the unplanned adventures that are the most memorable. Expecting a nice and quiet weekend at home, Presley and I found ourselves on the banks of the Mississippi River in Hannibal, Missouri.
It was a “Field of Dreams” scene as the 2022 youth ball season was underway, Monday, May 16th, at the Sports Complex in East Pocahontas. The Poc. Parks & Recreational crew wel- comed hundreds of athletes, coaches, and fanatics, eager to PLAY BALL!

The Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas reveals much of the city’s history. It is also one of the oldest landmarks in Pocahontas. The exact age of the cemetery is unknown but it has been in the possession of the Masonic Lodge for 163 years.
The United States flag was first imagined after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The Continental Congress authorized creation of the first national flag on June 14, 1777. It was decided that the flag should have 13 stripes, alternating red and white, to represent the original 13 colonies, and that the new union be represented by 13 white stars in a blue field to signify a “new constellation.” Francis Hopkinson, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, is most often credited with the original design.

Members of the council pictured are John Ferguson, Billie Sue Ray, Joyce McFall and Bob Dawson. Purchase of the sign was the main project of the council for the past year, and they have erected the sign in the large field in front of the school.

Local swimmer Cari King swam six races in the National Senior Games held recent- ly in the Miami area and won two ribbons. She finished in the Top Ten in four of those races. Her events were the 50-yard freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breast stroke, as well as the 100- and 200-yard individual medleys. She won her ribbons in the butterfly and backstroke.
