If you are a Razorback fan, and you’re happy with the job Sam Pittman has done with the football team over the past couple of years, then you should be over the moon ecstatic right now. Because the contract extension Pittman recently signed is built to ensure that Fayetteville is his last stop. In Pittman’s own words, “they can fire me whenever they get good and ready to, but I can’t leave if that makes sense.”

1951 Businesses Raided Five business places in Randolph County, four in Pocahontas and one in Biggers were raided at 1:45 Saturday afternoon and resulted in arrests of six persons and the seizing of about five cases of whiskey and seven cases of beer. The raids were made simultaneously by the Arkansas State Police and Revenue Men and county and city officers at the Country Club and the Clover Club, both night clubs, Art Reed’s Café and Clay Agee’s Café, all located in East Pocahontas and the Texaco Service Station at Biggers.

Great graduation gift ideas for the 2022 graduate

It would be an understatement to say that it has been an interesting few years for the Class of 2022. Due to the pandemic, many soon-to-be grads spent a significant portion of their school years adapting to a changing landscape, both at school and at home. While it is an accomplishment to reach graduation in a “normal” situation, students who have succeeded and thrived in the face of pandemic-related adversity are worthy of extra celebration.

Blast from the past…1900s

THIS SCENE ON MARR STREET in downtown Pocahontas during the early 1900s is of three businesses located where some may remember Austin Furniture, Wilson Jewelry and S & J Carpets were located much later in the 1980s. The business building on the far right was Peters Lunch Room Restaurant at this time and the Kercheval & Rice Economy Store is shown center. The women are unidentified. Local citizens had living quarters upstairs over the Peters Restaurant, and over the Kercheval and Rice Store, the International Order of Odd Fellows (Orient 213), and the Knights of Pythias met.
