Reading a river fishing story on the Internet has caused me to reflect on the historic and cultural significance of Fourche River. The writer regarded the Tennessee stream as his family’s ancestral river as I do the Fourche.

Each February, individuals across Canada and the United States celebrate Black History Month. Both nations have much to celebrate, and these are just a few of the individuals who have done much to advance the causes of Black people in the United States and Canada.

We want everyone to remember that February is Black History Month! Black History Month is the annual celebration of the history and culture of African- Americans in the United States. The Eddie Mae Herron Center has celebrated Black History Month since the Center was opened in 2001 – in fact, we celebrate Black History EVERY month of the year in recogniz- ing all the African-American pioneers, heroes, leaders, and just ordinary people who have contributed, and continue to con- tribute, to our society.

It may be freezing outside, but inside my home it seems like spring. I have hyacinth bulbs blooming, and their delicate fragrance is filling the house. I buy the bulbs in early fall and store them in the refrigerator. In January I take out two and start them growing. In a few weeks they are blooming and we enjoy their perfume. When the flowers start to fade I transplant them outside and grow some more.

Aristotle once said “ Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies “ And that is a way of saying how close a couple can become when they are in love. Well Valentines Day is a time to celebrate the love between two people. The husbands or boyfriends usually bring Red Roses, Chocolate or perhaps a piece of Jewelry to the love in their life in honor of this day. I have always heard the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach so I am sharing a couple of decadent desserts that I think would be nice way to show the man in your life the love you have in your heart for him.
